The FDA is expected to decide on Pimicotinib for Tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT) in an undisclosed window, under an NDA from Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.
What the FDA is deciding on Pimicotinib for Tenosynovial giant cell tumor
The FDA is reviewing Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany's application to approve Pimicotinib for tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT).
A once-daily pill from Abbisko Therapeutics that blocks CSF1R, the same target as Turalio and Romvimza. Merck KGaA announced on January 12, 2026 that the FDA had accepted the application, based on the Phase 3 MANEUVER trial, where tumors shrank more often than on placebo at week 25 and joint movement, stiffness and pain also improved.
The FDA gave it Breakthrough Therapy designation, and China approved it in December 2025. Merck KGaA has not disclosed a decision date.
Who the Pimicotinib decision matters to
Tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT) is a rare tumor that grows in the lining of a joint, tendon sheath or bursa. It is usually not cancer and does not spread, but it can grow into and damage the joint, its cartilage and nearby bone.
Prevalence: A Dutch nationwide study found about 43 new cases per million people each year, 39 localized and 4 diffuse (Mastboom et al., 2017). A Danish registry counted about 56 people per 100,000 living with TGCT at the end of 2012, 44 with the localized form and 12 with the diffuse form (Ehrenstein et al., 2017). What an approval or a rejection of Pimicotinib would mean
An approval starts a second race rather than ending the first one: specialty pharmacy setup, insurance review, and patient assistance typically take weeks even when everything goes right. Our guide to the 90 days after a rare disease approval explains the timeline and the moves families can make on day 1.
A complete response letter would mean the FDA declined to approve in the application's current form. The letter describes what the FDA wants addressed, and the company then decides whether to resubmit, run more studies or stop. Either way, this page updates with the outcome and what it means.

Most TGCT trials now test medicines that block the CSF1 receptor. Merck KGaA said in January 2026 that the FDA had accepted its application for pimicotinib, already approved in China, and a Phase 1 pimicotinib study with US sites is recruiting (NCT04192344).
Deciphera runs a real-world study of Romvimza (NCT07075471), and Daiichi Sankyo is following liver safety in people taking Turalio (NCT04635111). SynOx reported positive Phase 3 results for emactuzumab in April 2026 and says it plans to apply to the FDA. Trial teams usually ask whether the disease is diffuse or localized and what treatment came before, so an MRI report and surgery history help.
TGCT Support, a program of The Life Raft Group, offers patient information and community.
