Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy

Effective October 12, 2026

This policy covers health-related information about you, which Washington's My Health My Data Act calls consumer health data. It applies to Washington residents and to anyone whose health data we collect in Washington, and we follow the same practices for every visitor. Our full Privacy Policy covers everything else.

Health data we collect, and why

Your email and the condition you choose when you sign up for alerts. We use them to send the trial alerts and updates you asked for.

The pages and tools you use, such as which disease, drug or trial pages you view, which tools you use and some of what you search for, like a gene or condition name, with your approximate city and state. We record these under a random ID saved in your browser, never your name or email, to learn which pages help people and to fix what doesn't. In Washington and in Europe, nothing is saved in your browser unless you agree, and anyone can turn saving off below.

Questions you type into our chat, to answer them and to check that our answers are right. Chats are kept under a random ID and deleted after 90 days. If you report a problem with an answer, your note, the question and the answer are emailed to our team.

ZIP codes. When you enter one to find nearby trials, your browser looks up its map location directly. Trial Friend never receives the full ZIP code, and our visit records keep only its first 3 digits.

Alpha-gal checker lookups. A medicine you look up is sent to our server to check its FDA label. We count lookups by medicine name with no ID attached, so a lookup cannot be tied to you. Your saved list stays in your browser.

Your Match Me answers, such as age, sex and treatments, and your treatment timeline answers stay in your browser and are never sent to us.

Where it comes from

Only from you and from your browser while you use Trial Friend. We do not buy health data or get it from other companies.

What we share, and with whom

We do not sell consumer health data, and we do not share it with advertisers, drugmakers, sponsors or data brokers. Trial Friend has zero ad trackers.

These kinds of service providers process data only on our behalf, to run the site:

  • Email delivery, for alerts and updates (Resend)
  • Database and website hosting (Supabase and Vercel)
  • AI that writes chat answers (Anthropic)
  • Cookie-free visit counts that store no IP address (Plausible)

When you search for trials, your browser sends the condition and location you enter to ClinicalTrials.gov, a U.S. government service, to fetch matching trials.

Your choice about the visit ID

Your rights

You can ask whether we hold health data about you and get a copy, including a list of the companies that received it and how to contact them. You can ask us to delete it, and we will also tell our service providers to delete it. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

Email jason@trialfriend.com, or use the preferences link at the bottom of any email we send. You do not need an account. For visit data, include the visit ID shown above. We may ask for details to confirm a request is yours, such as a reply from the email address you signed up with. We respond within 45 days and may extend once by another 45 days if we tell you why. Requests are free, up to twice a year.

Appeals

If we turn down a request, reply to our answer with the word “Appeal”. We will reply in writing within 45 days and explain our decision. If we deny your appeal, you can file a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General at atg.wa.gov/file-complaint.

Location

We never use precise location or geofencing.

Changes

We will not collect, use or share health data in new ways, or for new purposes, without telling you here first and asking for your consent.
