Beren Therapeutics P.B.C. works on 1 rare disease tracked on Trial Friend, including Niemann-Pick Disease Type C.
Beren Therapeutics is a public benefit corporation in Thousand Oaks, California developing cyclodextrin medicines for diseases of cholesterol trafficking. Its first program is adrabetadex, an investigational drug given into the spinal fluid for infantile-onset Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC), meaning neurological symptoms that begin before age 6. The FDA is due to decide on it by November 17, 2026.
Beren's subsidiary Mandos LLC bought adrabetadex from Mallinckrodt in July 2021, after Mallinckrodt stopped developing it when a Phase 2b/3 trial in people aged 4 to 21 showed no difference from sham. Beren's application rests mainly on analyses comparing treated children with untreated patients from records, and the FDA accepted it with priority review in February 2026 before extending the review by 3 months in May.
Jason Camm, Beren's founder and chief executive, announced $300 million in financing in June 2026 to prepare a possible U.S. launch and family support programs. Beren has run an expanded access program for adrabetadex since 2021, and in September 2026 it started Test for NPC, which offers no-cost genome sequencing to eligible families.
